Over the past decade, I have helped colleges and universities better utilize their Web presence through long-term planning, content management strategies, and site development.

I am looking for an opportunity to help organizations remain visitor-focused, plan and adapt as the Web changes, and empower site authors to build better content.

WORK EXPERIENCE

University of Iowa Foundation
Web Content Manager

My primary responsibility is to manage the direction of the public and private electronic presence for the Foundation.

Strategic Direction
- Active participant in the strategic planning process for the UI Foundation.
- Established a working group to guide web direction for 2009-2014.
- Member of the Senior UI Webmasters group to oversee webmaster workshops and key initiatives University-wide.
Public Web Site (www.uifoundation.org - HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash)
- Implemented new design, content structure, code, and site maintenance processes.
- Instituted an implementation team and advisory group to assist with site development and direction.
- Aggregated social content into the site, including video, social feeds, images, and RSS content.
- Develop sub sites for campaigns, solicitation efforts, and stewardship.
- Oversee content and functional changes to the site.
Online Giving Site (www.givetoiowa.org - HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WebObjects)
- Implemented new design on existing giving application.
- Migrating giving site to new giving application and donor portal.
- Oversee content and functional changes to the site.
Social Presence (Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, Vimeo)
- Developed one of the first university foundation fan pages on Facebook.
- Initiated the UI Foundation twitter account, and currently maintain posts to the account.
- Initiated a Flickr account to share and manage photography.
- Initiated YouTube and Video accounts to share and manage video.
- Serve as technical advisor to our philanthropy awareness social presence (twitter, facebook)
- Set up permission structures and content processes for all social accounts.
- Moving key site content to a blogging engine to utilize RSS and permission control.
Mass Electronic Communications (HTML, text messages)
- Implemented HTML templates to promote consistency and reduce testing time for mass email messages.
- Develop and test all mass HTML emails from the UI Foundation.
- Provide direction in messaging, layout, and actions.
Employee Intranet (HTML, JavaScript, MS SharePoint)
- Oversee content and functional changes to existing intranet (HTML)
- Converting current intranet to SharePoint environment, which includes permissions, layout, and content structure.
- Instituted an implementation team and advisory group to assist with site development and direction.
- Training staff to manage SharePoint site based on permissions.

As the sole sales, marketing, and consulting director, my primary focus was to position Estrada as a leading content management solution for higher education and health care. During my time with Estrada, my responsibilities include:
  • Selling a proprietary content management system (CMS) to new clients and upgrade existing clients
  • Introducing consulting services to expand relationships with existing clients and prospects
  • Defining a proposal process to take a broader approach to standard proposal content
  • Improving trade show display to generate more booth traffic

Interactive Consultant

My role as a consultant allowed me to participate with my clients on a grand scale, better assisting with Web strategies to promote the institution as a whole. These tasks included:
  • Building relationships with higher education institutions, identifying where Stamats' services may help the institutions achieve their goals
  • Selling Stamats services, which included research, consulting, publications, interactive media, and direct marketing
  • Assisting other consultants with interactive media sales through proposal development, sales presentations, and advice
  • Writing proposals that matched institution's goals with Stamats services, overseeing all estimates, processes, and language
  • Conducting remote and on-campus consulting, specifically for interactive media

Interactive Media Production Manager

To bring a formalized process to college and university Web site development, I developed and oversaw the Interactive Media Production Department. My duties included:
  • Writing proposals for interactive media services, which included estimating hours and outside costs
  • Developing client Web sites, including site architecture, template development, content incorporation, and site implementation
  • Developing specifications for features outside of standard development, such as virtual tours and database-driven applications
  • Training clients on site maintenance principles and tools, including Adobe Dreamweaver and proprietary content management systems
  • Managing interactive media direction, which included setting revenue goals, hiring staff, assisting client consultants on latest interactive media trends, developing product descriptions, establishing testing standards, and selling the concept of interactive media internally

Interactive Media Project Manager

On a daily basis, my role as project manager was to keep projects on time and on budget. At the same time, I managed client expectation and improved projects by integrating with marketing, recruiting, and communications efforts. These duties included:
  • Partnering with client consultants to sell interactive media services to higher education institutions
  • Working with creative staff and outside services to ensure deliverables were on schedule and within budget
  • Training internal staff on latest trends in interactive media.

SKILLS

For Web site development, I have experience with Macromedia/Adobe Dreamweaver and Flash, HomeSite and hand coding in Notepad.

I am comfortable in both Windows and Linux server environments, have experience in log analysis software (Google Analytics, AWStats, LogAnalyzer, WebTrends), am proficient in Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and HTML, and have a limited working knowledge of JavaScript, XML, Microsoft SQL, and MySQL.

For graphics and layout, I have experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PageMaker, and Microsoft Publisher.

For productivity software, I am fluent in the Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio, and 37 Signals BaseCamp.
